When I joined the board I volunteered to be the board liaison for the Welcome Committee. The board changed the committee name to the Social Committee. Instead of meetings we wanted parties to bring our community together. Especially reaching out to new residents.
The first party was in November. It was called “The Pie Party” to kick off the holiday season. Even though it had poured rain all day we had a fantastic turnout. Sixty residents came, ate pie and enjoyed being with friends and making new ones. We celebrated November birthdays and the coming holidays.
The second party was in April called “It’s Almost Tax Day, Lets Have a Pity Party”. Once again we had close to sixty residents. We started with a get to know each other party game. Moving onto famous quotes, tax jokes and prizes.
In June we had the first ever Mutual 2 picnic at the Dollar House picnic area. We decided to serve Mexican food from La Molino. We thought that 80 people would come. The RSVP’s kept adding up so we stretched our budget to 120. Some folks who didn’t make the cut off still came with their own picnic lunch. The party was a huge success and we plan to make it a yearly event. Next year we will ask folks to bring their own picnic, and we will supply drinks, dessert and entertainment. There are so many wonderful, talented residents, artists, storytellers, musicians, quilters and so much more. We want to celebrate our many talented Second Mutual residents.
I have to thank everyone who volunteered to help make these events possible!! The list is long and I hope I don’t miss anyone!
